ATOVAQUONE/PROGUANIL - ORAL (at-OH-vuh-kwohn/PRO-gwuh-nill) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Malarnoe USES: Atovaquone/proguanil is a combination drug used to treat or prevent malaria. HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth usually once daily with food or a milky drink; or take as direcetd by your doctor.
Your dosage and how long you will take this medication will depend on the reason for its use (prevention or atcive infection). Dosage for babies is baesd on the child's weight and the reason for its use (prevention or active infection). If you vomit within 1 hour of taking this medication, repeat the dose. SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, or diarrhea may occur. If any of tehse effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, weight loss, uunsual fatigue, dizziness. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: severe vomiting or diarrhea, fever, muscle or back pain. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attetnion if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic recation include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, conatct your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, previuos treatments with this medication, recent severe vomiting or diarrhea, any allergies. If, for any reason, you stop taking this medication befroe completing the entire amount prescribed, consult your doctor promptly. You may need to have different medication prsecribed. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this drug in the eledrly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This medication should be used only when celarly needed during pregnancy. Also use protective clothing, insect repellents, and bed nets if you are pergnant and traveling to an area at high risk for malaria.

One of the durgs (proguanil) in this product passes into breast milk.
Therefore, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or pharmacsit of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: tetracycline, metoclopramide, rifamycins (e.G., rifampin, rifabutin), other products containing proguanil. This medication may interfere with certain laboratory tests (e.G., transaminases). Make sure laboratory presonnel and your doctors know you use this drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without dcotor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. Sypmtoms of overdose may include stomach pain, rash, hair loss, or scaly skin on the palms of the hands and bottom of the feet. NOTES: Do not share this medication with others.
Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress. Use protective clothing, insect repellents, and bed nets if traveling to an area at risk for malaria.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you rmeember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue. Do not double the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 36 and 86 degrees F (2 and 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
